Who's having the most fun on Tuesday evenings? We are!
Santana 22s are affectionately known as "tuna boats," and we love them! Island Yacht Club's shared boat Island Girl 2 is a Santana 22, and several of our most active members are also Santana skippers who want to share their love of the boats with other IYC members.
From April to October, the club organizes Tuna Tuesdays, where Santana 22 skippers are matched each week with crew members of all different skill levels.
Most of the boats are berthed at either Alameda Marina or Fortmann Marina. We usually meet around 5:30 (sometimes earlier when the days are shorter) at our assigned boats, help rig, and head out onto the Estuary!
Depending on the skill level of the crew, sometimes there is a lot of learning, sometimes there is a little informal racing education, and sometimes it's just a matter of tooling around the water feeling sorry for everyone who isn't out there with us. We do our best to mix up different crew skill levels so everyone is able to enjoy a great evening on the water. This is also a great way to experience our Shared Boat Program if you have interest in joining that group.
Our coordinator (a.k.a. "Tuna Wrangler") helps coordinate skippers and crew weekly, and will communicate via text or email.
Santana 22 Skippers: If you're a Santana 22 skipper who wants to join the fun, please email [email protected] to be subscribed to IYC's Tuna Tuesdays email list. Non-members are welcome to include their boats in Tuna Tuesdays!
Crew: If you are an active IYC member interested in joining as crew, email [email protected] to be subscribed to IYC's Tuna Tuesdays email list.
