Welcome!
IYC was founded in 1970 by a group of sailboat racers who wanted to offer the best possible value in a yacht club. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit club open to anyone interested in sailing, power boating and on-the-water activities.
IYC members enjoy reciprocal privileges at yacht clubs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. IYC also extends a warm welcome to yacht clubs that grant reciprocity to our members. While we presently do not have a clubhouse, we are continuing our search for a new home. Both in an online and in-person setting, our focus is on learning and racing together; we are for boaters who seek camaraderie and fellowship without pretense.
IYC sponsors several key sailboat races on the Bay and Estuary; the Silver Eagle Long Distance Race, the Jill and Jack +1 Race, the Linda Newland formally the Sadie Hawkins Race, and both Island Days Sunday beer can series (Winter) and Island Nights Friday evening beer can series (Spring and Summer). During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing our racing program.
In addition, IYC is the founder and host of the Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar (WSS). The WSS is two full days of sailing instruction, with classes taught both on and off the water, by women for women. Nothing more exemplifies IYC’s commitment to making sailing more accessible and fun.
