28th Annual Women’s Sailing Seminar Goes Virtual
Women Teaching Women all about Sailing!

A series of free, online events in September and October are now open for registration in the lead-up to Women’s Sailing Seminar weekend on Nov. 13-15, 2020. Register at iyc.org/wss.

ALAMEDA, California, September 8, 2020: Island Yacht Club’s 28th Annual Women’s Sailing Seminar (iyc.org/wss) announced a series of free and paid online events to promote women’s sailing, education, and to provide a sense of community in the midst of social distancing.

In response to the demand for a safe and accessible learning environment, WSS transitioned to an online format for all WSS events this year. Sign up for one or both of the two FREE “Capture the Power!” Storytelling nights on September 14 and October 19. For more information and the chance to tell your story during our open mic, visit iyc.org/wss.

Women’s Sailing Seminar weekend (November 13-15) is a paid event and will feature 3 days of classes and other interactive events tailored to suit every level of sailing experience. Now in its 28th year, Women’s Sailing Seminar features volunteer women expert sailing instructors, including: Captain Mary Swift-Swan of Afterguard Sailing Academy (afterguard-sailing.com), Captain Tanja Koster of teach2sail (teach2sail.com), Nathalie Criou - renowned “Race to Alaska” skipper (nathaliecriouracing.com), and Behan Gifford - sailing celebrity, coach and author (sailingtotem.com).

Ros de Vries, Publications Chair at Island Yacht Club, notes that women are enthusiastic about the online format. “Women everywhere - not only in the Bay Area - have told us they’d rather attend our seminar virtually, than skip a year. They’re looking for opportunities to explore sailing and expand their horizons.”

Registration is now open for the free storytelling events in September and October. Tickets for Women’s Sailing Seminar weekend in November are now on sale and will cost $80, increasing to $100 after November 1.

To attend our upcoming storytelling nights and stay updated on WSS events, visit iyc.org/wss.
