Welcome to Island Yacht Club!
IYC was founded in 1970 by a group of sailboat racers who wanted to offer the best possible value in a yacht club. Located in the Alameda Marina on the sunny and calm Oakland / Alameda Estuary, IYC is ideally located for a quick day sail or a warm downwind sail home after a day’s thrashing on the Bay.
IYC is an all-volunteer non-profit yacht club open to anyone interested in sailing or power boating. Club members enjoy a large clubhouse with all the amenities and great views of the Oakland / Alameda Estuary. IYC is for boaters who seek camaraderie and fellowship without pretense.
IYC sponsors several key sailboat races on the Bay and Estuary; the Double Handed Lightship Race, the Silver Eagle Long Distance Race, the Sadie Hawkins Race, and both Island Days Sunday beer can series (winter) and Island Nights Friday evening beer can series (spring and summertime)–which includes the Estuary’s best post-race meal!
IYC holds monthly member dinners, with amazing food from our own galley and featured speakers from the Bay Area sailing community or live music. We also have cruise outs to other Bay Area clubs. And, IYC is proud to sponsor the Alameda Sea Scouts.
In addition, IYC is the founder and host of the Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar (WSS). The WSS is two full days of sailing instruction, with classes taught both on and off the water, by women for women. Nothing more exemplifies IYC’s commitment to making sailing more accessible and fun for all; see the WSS page for much more information!
