About Us

Welcome to Island Yacht Club! IYC was founded in 1970 by a group of sailboat racers who wanted to offer the best possible value in a yacht club. Located in the Alameda Marina on the sunny and calm Oakland / Alameda Estuary, IYC is ideally located for a quick day sail or a warm downwind sail home after a day’s thrashing on the Bay.

IYC is an-all volunteer non-profit Yacht Club open to any and all interested in sail or power. Club members enjoy a large Clubhouse with all the amenities and great views of the Alameda/Oakland estuary. IYC is for boaters who seek camaraderie and fellowship without pretense.

IYC sponsors several key sailboat races on the Bay and Estuary; the Double Handed Lightship Race, the Silver Eagle Long Distance Race, the Sadie Hawkins Race and a spring and summertime Island Nights Friday evening beer can series (which includes the Estuary’s best post-race BBQ). In addition, IYC is the founder and home of the Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar. The WSS is two days of sailing education put together and taught by women for women. Nothing more exemplifies IYC’s commitment to making sailing more accessible and fun for all; see the WSS page for much more information!

We have monthly dinner meetings typically featuring speakers from the Bay Area sailing community as well as monthly club cruise outs to other Bay Area clubs.

IYC is a member of both  PICYA, and the YRA SF.
