A Brief Intro to Virtual Sailing
There is a great little video on the Tradewinds (SL) Yacht Club site RIGHT HERE. It assumes some basic SL knowledge but NO sailing knowledge at all.
You’ll see him “buy” the boat (for free), place it in the water and sail off. He uses a very basic boat that doesn’t give as much information, and does not respond to as many different factors, as my Quest Marine Q-2n shown in the picture below.
As you watch the video, note that he’s using the same concepts that are used in RL sailing--sail trim, the Dead Zone into the wind. Also note the COLORS of the text over his head; it changes according to how close his sail trim is to optimum for the point of sail.
Don’t miss the raising of the Spinnaker! It happens about 9 minutes in.
